- This piece is from the Utility Furniture Scheme. Launched in 1942, the scheme responded to material shortages by promoting well-designed, affordable and durable furniture for everyday use.
Utility furniture is defined by its simplicity and practicality, with clean lines and minimal decoration, reflecting the need for efficient use of resources. Many pieces originally carried the CC41 mark, the symbol of wartime utility production.
